Muhammad Khalid started his career in 1984 as a Social Welfare Officer and served in the Social Welfare Department, Punjab, in different capacities, including Medical Social Officer, Assistant Administrator (Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons), District Officer (Sahiwal and Jhelum), Manager of the District Industrial Home, Kasur, and Assistant Director of Child Welfare.
He also served in the Population Welfare Department, Punjab, in various roles, including Deputy Director (Administration and Planning) and District Officer (Sahiwal and Sheikhupura). He retired as Director of the Population Welfare Department in 2016.
During his tenure in the Population Welfare Department, he also joined the Home Department, Punjab, as Director General of the Child Protection Welfare Bureau for approximately four years.
After retirement, he joined as Coordinator at the National Commission on the Rights of the Child, Regional Office, Lahore. Additionally, he worked as a Project Coordinator at PAHCHAAN (an NGO) and led a UNICEF-funded project on COVID-19. Currently, he is working as a Complaint Handling Officer at the National Commission on the Rights of the Child, Islamabad.
